Calibration of the limit equilibrium pillar failure model using physical models

چکیده
The limit equilibrium model, used in displacement discontinuity codes, is a popular method to simulate pillar failure. This paper investigates the use of physical modelling calibrate this model. For experiments, an artificial material was prepared and cubes were poured using standard 100 mm χ civil engineering concrete moulds. friction angle between platens testing machine varied by soap sandpaper. Different modes failure observed depending on angle. Of interest that significant loadshedding recorded for some specimens which visually remained mostly intact. highlights difficulty classifying pillars as failed or intact underground stopes where spalling observed. laboratory models enabled more precise calibration model compared previous attempts. Guidelines assist with are given paper. appears be useful approximation it could stress-strain behaviour models.

Automatic Calibration of HEC-HMS Model Using Multi-Objective Fuzzy Optimal Models
Estimation of parameters of a hydrologic model is undertaken using a procedure called “calibration” in order to obtain predictions as close as possible to observed values. This study aimed to use the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for automatic calibration of the HEC-HMS hydrologic model, which includes a library of different event-based models for simulating the rainfall-runoff pr...

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
Slope Failure of Embankment Dam under Extreme Flooding Conditions: Comparison of Limit Equilibrium and Continuum Models
During the spring of 2003, the downstream slope of an embankment dam began to move during an extreme flooding event. The current study was implemented to evaluate the slope stability of the embankment and as a case-study to compare the limit equilibrium and continuum modeling methods. Initially, stability analyses were performed using conservative shear strength of soils estimated from both bor...
